Speed and Spain
In 1627 John Speed published his “A Prospect of the Most Famous Parts of the World”, the first world atlas ever published by an Englishman. The atlas contains 22 folio maps.
The full title of this map is “Spaine Newly described, with many adictions, both in the attires of the people & the Situations of their cheifest Cityes”.
The cities on top include: Madrid, Lisbon, Seville, Valladolid, Granada, Toledo, Barcelona, Burgos and Cadiz. Scale bars are in Spanish and German miles.
