Ancient Italy by Ortelius
Ortelius based this map on Gastaldi’s map of Italy (Meurer p. 148-154, Karrow 30/90, p. 216-249), supplemented by classical sources such as Vergilius, Plinius, Aelianus, Aethicus, Strabo, Polybius and Varro.
The copper plate from which this map was printed is currently preserved a the Plantin-Moretus museum in Antwerp.
At the bottom Ortelius oncorporates two medallions of emperors Vespasianus and Antoninus Pius.
