A special concept

This interesting engraving rests on a unique concept since it shows in one compact illustration: the sun, moon, stars, god, the earth and the sea, with four angels in the corners, watching over the universe.

Munster’s Cosmographia was one of the most influential georgraphical works of the 16th Century. It was published in a number of editions over a half century and was continuously revised and updated to include new illustrations and updated information.

The Cosmographia by Münster (1488–1552) from 1544 is the earliest German-language description of the world. Language editions were in German, Latin, French, Italian and Czech.
